The magician makes a card change places with another card that's face up in the spectator's hand!
Imagine this: the spectator touches any card desired, and the magician tears this first card into eight pieces. The pieces are placed into the spectator's hand to hold. A second card is placed on top of the spectator's closed fist, as the spectator closely guards those pieces of the first card. Then the magic happens! The card held over the spectator's hand now becomes the first card that was formerly torn up into pieces. Inside the spectator's closed fist is the second card, in eight pieces!
